Costa
Rica currently has 92 thousand species of flora and fauna, this figure
is the latest count after 5 thousand species will be added to Costa
Rican natural wealth during the past four years, in accordance with the
basis of the national strategy for biodiversity (ENB) updates.
The
last study conducted in 2009 had determined in Costa Rica the existence
of around 87 thousand species, however the latter made this year was
determined species in the country to reach the figure of 92 thousand,
according to Marta Jiménez, Director of the National Commission for
management of biodiversity, in a statement to Acan-Efe.

new invertebrate species, 5 reptile, 1 mammal, approximately 700 fungi,
molluscs, 49 birds and plants, according to data from the Ministry of
environment and energy.
Discovery
and reorganization of these species is significant to some threats that
suffer the same evidence and thus make a strong work in the
conservation of these.
Some
of the threats faced by this species is the increase of the human
population, their use and consumption habits, changes in habitat,
exploitation of natural resources and climate change.
"Costa
Rica is a pioneer in the world trying to comply with its commitments to
biodiversity, an experience that has the support of the Inter-American
Institute for agricultural cooperation and can transmit to the rest of
the countries of the Americas," said the representative of the Institute
in San Jose, Miguel Angel Arvelo to La Nación newspaper.
The
Vice Minister of the environment in Costa Rica, Ana Lorena Guevara,
also said that Costa Rica strategy will seek to comply with all the
international commitments that are necessary for the conservation, and
will include aspects such as the agriculture.
Some
data of importance is that currently the country has 30% of its
territory in biological reserves and national parks, in addition to more
than half of its territory is covered by forests.
The
conservation of the environment is a priority for the Costa Rican
authorities, as it is one of the most attractive treasures of our
