Airports in Costa Rica want to become port of destination and not transit
Tourism Minister Allan Flores, is focused in that it is important for tourists to visit the country for more than five days about when they have to make stops in Costa Rica and not become only a transit country.
Strategy has already achieved more than 2 million tourists visit the country.
"More beneficial are those passengers landing at the airport from entering the country, because they leave more currency and help with their experience to promote it in their countries of origin", said Allan Flores, Tourism Minister.
Some representatives of the country's productive sector, see the proposal with very good eyes, also ask the Government to keep a much more comprehensive view and that is generated in addition connections allowing to reach destinations where businesses are generated more easily.
"There has to be a balance. Good rates, diversity of sources and facilities of connection for exporters", said Mario Montero, executive director of the Chamber of food industry.
For example, if we make a comparison with Panama, Tourism Minister acknowledges that the neighboring country bets for connections to the North and South, especially through the Copa airline.
"There are few passengers who arrive at the airport and have to Panama as a final destination. This country focuses on this business model to develop its airport", said Flores.
For example the President of the Chamber of Pineapple Entrepreneurs, Abel Chaves, believes that it is very important for the country to become a target platform end for those businesses who come to do business have the possibility of staying a few days of tourism. But also create suitable that generate more connections from here.
"We have to always go to Panama to reach Europe, that more expensive costs and it is waste of time. If we have an airport with conditions for go direct here, facilitate us much transfers", said Chaves.
Entrepreneurs are running to the idea of having better conditions for tourism executives, would be thus making travel with dual-purpose becoming more frequently.
